Virtual Session: Addressing Gender Bias in Entrepreneurship (Women Only)

March 12 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

This event hosted by Amal Unite & Empower in collaboration with NLOWE aims to spark critical conversations about the systemic barriers immigrant and newcomer women entrepreneurs face. Women entrepreneurs, particularly those from immigrant and newcomer backgrounds, face systemic challenges such as limited access to funding, lack of mentorship, and entrenched stereotypes. Our goal is to foster dialogue, share insights, and explore strategies that can help create a more equitable business environment.

By shedding light on the biases ingrained in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, we hope to foster a more inclusive and supportive business environment in Newfoundland and Labrador.

  • The session will focus on real experiences, research-backed insights, and actionable solutions to overcoming gender bias.
  • We’ll explore systemic barriers affecting immigrant and newcomer women’s business growth and discuss policies and support systems that can help.
  • This event is part of the broader NLOWE Gender Bias Project, which aims to address gender bias and foster growth opportunities for women entrepreneurs in NL.

Key Activities of NLOWE Gender Bias Project:

  1. Collaborate with women business owners to understand what tools will support their growth.
  2. Create those tools through an online community and engaged learning of women business owners.
  3. Build strong networks between the women and allies, mentors and sponsors.
  4. Pilot & Evaluate Tools Developed.
